Former Atlanta Hawk and current Olympiacos basketball player Josh Childress has swine flu, formally known as H1N1.

Olympiacos is looking at winning their first Euroleague title since 1997. However, the Greek powerhouse is dealing with health issues, particularly when it comes to illnesses. Josh Childress now joins teammates Sofoklis Schortsianitis and Kostas Papanikolaou in trying to fight through the swine flu. Olympiacos' front office made an official statement today pertaining to the health of 'Chili' stating that he had H1N1 and that Josh would miss the Euroleague matchup with Efes Pilsen on Thursday. This coming days after Chris Douglas-Roberts was officially confirmed as the first current NBA player to have H1N1. Schortsianitis and Papanikolaou were diagnosed with swine flu just days after returning to Greece from their preseason encounter with the Cleveland Cavaliers in Ohio. If you recall, LeBron James was among several Cavalier players who were confirmed to have influenza shortly after the Olympiacos exhibition game.
The good news in all these cases is that no one seems to be suffering too badly as doctors for all the currently ill players are overall satisfied with their progress. Josh Childress had a player option to leave Olympiacos during the summer and was flirting with possibly signing with the Milwaukee Bucks. Olympiacos is currently 2-1 in the 10-game 'regular season' Euroleague campaign. Josh Childress scored 18 points in OLY's recent 97-73 victory over Lietuvos Rytas. Expect more pressure on new additions Linas Kleiza and Von Wafer to bring more to the forward position. Hopefully we won't see more athletes pick up the sickness, but the chances of that are very low based on the current trends.
