Hibbert & Head Can't Snap Skid

Indiana Pacers Head Coach Jim O'Brien wishes he had no more problems than picking up technical fouls. His team is severely hampered with plenty of injuries. Danny Granger, Jeff Foster, and Travis Diener are on the injured reserve list, but Indy was also missing Tyler Hansbrough (ear infection) and Troy Murphy (sprained ankle) last night in their 121-110 home defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Despite 13 rebounds and setting a new career-high of 25 points by Roy Hibbert, as well as Luther Head grabbing 7 boards and tying his career-high of 30 points, the Pacers were down 17 points at halftime and were never able to recover the final 24 minutes. Brandon Rush and Josh McRoberts did all they could off the bench, putting up 15 and 10 points respectively. The only other Pacer in double digits was Dahntay Jones who scored 14 points as Coach O'Brien's team is severely lacking defensive intensity. The Pacers find themselves going into the New Year with a 9-22 record and struggling to break an 8-game losing slide. Indy hosts the 7-26 Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.

Rudy Gay put up a game-high 31 points for the victors, adding 9 rebounds. Zach Randolph continues to play like an All-Star as he put up another phenomenal 28-point, 13-board double-double. Marc Gasol also posted a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Conley and O.J. Mayo provided mediocre 13 and 12-point performances. Finally, rookie Sam Young contributed 11 points off the bench. Memphis now has a chance to start off 2010 right, by getting back to .500. The 15-16 Grizzlies travel to Phoenix to take on the 21-12 Suns. Both squads are in the midst of 2-game win streaks.
