2009 is over as The National Basketball Association dished out 28 fines to coaches, players, and owners this year valued at $690,000. Here's a look at some of more important ones as far as uniqueness and dollar amount goes.

January 16th- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was fined $25,000 for "improper interactions" with Denver Nugget J.R. Smith. In simpler terms, Cuban walked up to Smith and started yelling in his face at halftime. Cuban came onto the court and showed his displeasure with J.R. throwing an elbow at Antoine Wright.
February 27th- Rasheed Wallace was fined $25,000 for being ejected as he threw a towel into the New Orleans Hornets crowd and another one onto the court. He picked up two technicals, giving him 16 total in the '08-'09 season which meant Wallace had to miss the next game which was against the Magic.
March 29th- Mark Cuban picked up what appears to be the first NBA Twitter fine ever. Not surprisingly, it once again involved J.R. Smith who didn't get a technical for taunting in front of Antoine Wright.
April 28th- Doc Rivers was already fined in March for criticizing referees. He once again picked up a $25,000 fine. This time however, the Boston Celtics franchise itself had to fork over $25,000. This was during that epic Chicago Bulls 1st Round series. That same day saw Portland Trailblazers Coach Nate McMillan and Houston Rockets Coach Rick Adelman each also pick up $25,000 fines in the hectic postseason jibber-jabber.
May 26th- Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers organization each picked up $25,000 fines for Phil's comments after Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets.
June 4th- Handshake Gate. LeBron James not only didn't shake hands with the Orlando Magic after the Cleveland Cavaliers were knocked out of the playoffs on my May 30th birthday in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but he also walked off on the media. That's a big no-no for David Stern who fined the vacationing star $25,000.
September 15th- Disgruntled Golden State Warrior Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 for publicly asking for a trade. Eventually later in the year he'd find his way to a potential playoff squad in the Charlotte Bobcats. I'd say that's a fair trade-off considering how horrendous GSW is at the moment.
October 13th-16th- Talk about bringing down the hammer, David Stern must've really been a bad mood that week. Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards were each fined because Agent Zero didn't make himself available to the media. Memphis Grizzlies Coach Lionel Hollins took a $25k hit for talking about officiating. Larry Brown and the Charlotte Bobcats were each fined $60,000 for badmouthing the refs on and off the court. Finally, you have Stan Van Gundy and the Orlando Magic each taking $35,000 hits to their wallets.
November 10th- Magic All-Star stud center Dwight Howard took a $15,000 for officiating comments made on his personal blog as we truly begin with the social networking fine age.
November 29th- Charlotte Bobcat Tyson Chandler and Phoenix Suns big man Amar'e Stoudemeire were each fined with the first NBA player 'in-game' tweet offences. Oh yeah, and Rasheed Wallace took a $30,000 hit now as a member of the Boston Celtics for (you guessed it) criticizing officiating. No love lost for 'Sheed.
December 7th- Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah was fined $15,000 for throwing the basketball into the stands and hitting the photographer. The odd thing, Magic man Matt Barnes was fined $20k for throwing the ball into the stands following the end of a loss where there were no complaints set forth afterwards. Consistency please.
December 28th- The last known fine of the year went to New York Knick Nate Robinson who was fined $25,000. Not for what he said, but what his agent Aaron Goodwin told the media on how he wanted his client to be traded since Coach Mike D'Antoni had him in the doghouse.
